While Father's Day is still a few weeks away, two sires with first crops hitting the track this year - 2008's Trotter and Pacer/Horse of the Year Deweycheatumnhowe and Somebeachsomewhere - got an early gift with each notching their first two-year-old winner
on Saturday morning.
At the Meadowlands Racetrack, 12 baby races were carded. On the trotting side, two trotters sired by Deweycheatumnhowe and campaigned by the trotter's former trainer Ray Schnittker were victorious. Caneel Hall, a $40,000 Lexington purchase, won her qualifier in 2:01.2, while Sinatra Hall, a $50,000 Harrisburg purchase, was victorious in 2:00.3.
The fastest trotting mile of the morning went to Jimmy Takter trainee To Dream On, a Credit Winner filly from the well-bred Conway Hall mare Satin Pillows. With Takter in the bike, To Dream On kicked home in a sizzling :26.4 final frame to trip the timer in 1:57.3. Takter ponied up $200,000 for the filly at last year's Harrisburg sale.
The first crop of pacing sire Somebeachsomewhere also made headlines at the Big M as his daughter Odds On Alpha was a 1:57 winner for driver John Campbell and trainer Robin Schadt. The filly is a homebred of Odds On Racing.
Campbell, Schadt and Odds On also connected with another 1:57 winner, Odds On Equuleus. That son of Art Major-Latte Lady is also a homebred of Odds On Racing.

Mohawk Racetrack hosted two-year-old qualifiers on Saturday morning. With the judges allowing a one-second variant, six qualifying races took place.
The fastest mile of the morning was in the opening dash, which was clocked by Glammit. The rookie pacing colt sat in the pocket for most of the mile through panels of :30.1, 1:01.2 and 1:29.3, before brushing home to stop the timer in 1:59.2 for driver Mike Saftic. The homebred son of Rambaran-Glamorous Gal is trained by Larry Micallef for owner/breeder Dawn Lupul.
Trainer Riika Rekila then qualified a pair of trotting fillies, Katla (2:03.1) and Massive Babe (2:05.2), who both got under the wire first.
One of Canada’s leading conditioners, Carl Jamieson, was also busy on Saturday morning. He sent out a pair of winners in Tempo Seelster (2:00) and Belle Boyd (1:59.4). Carl’s son, Jody, handled the driving duties. Pacing filly Belle Boyd was a $90,000 yearling purchase from last year’s Lexington Selected Yearling Sale, while Tempo Seelster, a pacing colt, was a $50,000 purchase from the 2011 Forest City Yearling Sale. The son of first crop sire, Santanna Blue Chip is out of the stakes winning mare, The Patriot ($623,324).
The Isaac Waxman-trained Jan It Jackson, a daughter of Badlands Hanover, found the wire first as well. With driver J.R. Plante in the bike, the pacing rookie won her qualifier in 2:00.4.
