'Silk,' 'Poof' Headline CBC Elims

Eliminations for the Canadian Breeders Championships for three-year-olds of both sexes and gaits were drawn today and are now set to go postward this coming Friday and Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack

The elims for the fillies will be contested during Mohawk's Friday program, which will kick off with a first-race post time of 7:30 p.m. The elims for the colts and geldings will take place during Mohawk's 13-race Saturday card, which also carries a 7:30 p.m. first-race post time.

The top five finishers in each of the elims will gain entrance to their respective divisional finals, which will all be contested Saturday, July 24 over the Campbellville, Ont. oval

A total of 16 trotting fillies have been split into two eight-horse elims, which have been carded as Races 3 (8:10 p.m.) and 6 (9:10 p.m.) on the 13-dash Friday card. O'Brien Award winner Poof Shes Gone (PP8, P. MacDonell) has drawn into the second of the elims and will have to overcome an outermost starting spot for trainer Richard 'Nifty' Norman.

A total of 16 pacing fillies have also been split into a pair of eight-horse elims, which have been carded as Races 4 (8:30 p.m.) and 9 (10:10 p.m.) on the Friday card. Fan Hanover victor Western Silk (PP4, M. MacDonald) has been drawn in to contest the second of the elims for trainer Casie Coleman.

Eighteen trotting colts and geldings have been split up into a pair of nine-horse elims, which have been carded as Race 3 (8:10 p.m.) and 7 (9:36 p.m.) on the 13-dash Saturday program. Robert McIntosh trainee Text Me (PP3, Ra. Waples) will be contesting the first of the elims.

Fifteen pacing colts and geldings have been split into two elims, which have been programmed as Race 2 (7:51 p.m.) and 9 (10:18 p.m.) on the Saturday docket. Upper Canada Cup winner Haul Away (PP5, Ra. Waples) will be starting from mid-pack when the horses line up in the second of the elims.
