Truro Hosts Erwin Andrew Memorial Series

Older pacing mares squared off in a pair of divisions of the Erwin Andrew Memorial Series at Truro Raceway on Sunday afternoon, with each split carrying a purse of $3,130.

The multi-leg event, which is sponsored by Standardbred Canada and Meridian Farms, saw three divisions go postward in the opening leg at the CDPEC on June 26.

My Fine Lady was a repeat winner in the series thanks to her 1:57.2 score in this afternoon's assignment for trainer Dr. Trevin Shive and driver Todd Trites.

Trites had the six-year-old daughter of Dream Away carve out panels of :28, :57.2 and 1:27.1 before stepping home in :30.1 to seal the deal by more than four lengths. Woodmere Rockette (Gilles Barrieau) was second to the 1-5 favourite and Northie T (Ernie Laffin) finished third.

Dr. James Shive holds the papers on the mare, who now owns 23 lifetime wins and earnings in excess of $290,000.

R Es Queen Virgina, who was second in the opening leg of the series, bounced back with a sharp victory in today's second division. The five-year-old Grinfromeartoear miss rallied out of the pocket to win in a time of 1:57.2 for driver Gilles Barrieau.

The Steve Mason trainee tracked pacesetter KG Affair (Terry Gallant) through splits of :27.3, :58 and 1:27.3 before finding late room and using a :29.2 final frame to post the quarter-length decision. KG Affair held for the runner-up award and Done Like A Dinner (Ryan Ellis) rounded out the top three.

Owned by Downey Stables of Saint John, New Brunswick, the pacer won for the 15th time in her career while bumping her lifetime earnings to $92,493.

The next stop of the Erwin Andrew Memorial Series is Inverness Raceway on July 23rd. The series will also makes stops at Exhibition Park Raceway on August 23rd and Fredericton Raceway on September 1st.

Summerside Raceway will host the rich final on September 24th.
