Shake That Junk etched her name in the Grand River Raceway track record books for three-year-old pacing fillies with a 1:54.2 performance in her Trillium division on Friday.
Shake That Junk drove to the front for driver Anthony MacDonald and placed favourite Southwind Piaya (Brad Forward) into the pocket after a sizzling first quarter of :27. The Camluck – Diamond Dawn filly continued to show the way through panels of :55.3 and 1:25.
Southwind Piaya popped the pocket around the final turn, setting up a showdown in the final eighth. Shake That Junk, however, stayed iron tough on the rail and hung on for a quarter-length score. Marla Hanover (Carl Jamieson) completed the top three.
The 1:54.2 mile lowered the previous mark of 1:54.3, which was set last year by Quail Seelster.
James Dean trains Shake That Junk ($5.40) and also holds ownership of the filly with partners Dr David Powell, P And J Stable and 1140545 Ontario Ltd. In the $36,784 second split, Lola Palooza went coast-to-coast for trainer/driver Carl Jamieson. The Western Hanover – Love You Forty filly cut fractions of :28.1, :59.3 and 1:28.1 en route to a length and three quarters triumph in 1:57.
St Lads Seraph (Trevor Henry) got the place spot while the show went to Slomotion (Brad Forward).
