The Newfoundland and Labrador Standardbred Breeders Association second annual stakes program will take place this weekend during the Labour Day card at St. John's Racing and Entertainment Centre.
The NLSBA is pleased to see that the number of stakes horses and purses have increased over 2007, and as a result, there will be both a two and three-year-old division this year.
Winning horses and drivers will each receive coolers and awards respectively from the corporate sponsors. As well, the winning owners will receive a complimentary win photo layout from the NLSBA.
A large crowd is anticipated to see the young horses race as they have become a featured attraction among local fans and horse people alike.
The interest in breeding and training young horses in Newfoundland is on the rise since the inaugural NLSBA stakes event last year, and all indications are the 2009 program will be even better.
A post race reception will be hosted by the NLSBA at the Back River Stables and all are welcome to attend.
