When Martha Maxine arrived at the Meadowlands in April, it was tough to say she would turn out to be this good.
The four-year-old Park Place mare arrived on the scene and made her Meadowlands debut on April 30 in non-winners of two races. This was after racing her entire career previously at Balmoral, where she struggled to stay pacing.
In seven starts heading into Friday's contest at the Big M, Martha Maxine had registered six wins – five of them by three lengths or more – and a second place finish. One of her wins was in 1:50.
Tonight, in the $35,000 Mares feature, driver Andy Miller had Martha Maxine parked out in seventh for the first half-mile before making a big three-wide sweeping move in the third quarter. Martha Maxine cleared to the front after the 1:22.2 third marker and never looked back from there, scoring her sixth straight victory by a length and a quarter in 1:51.
Guestimate (Brian Sears) was second while Life Of Luxury N (Eric Goodell) got third.
Trained by Erv Miller, Martha Maxine is owned by the Erv Miller Stable Inc., Tony Alagna and Brittany Farms. Now in 16 seasonal starts, she is 10-3-2 with earnings of $113,820.
