Des Smith Classic Pace winner Silent Swing returned from a brief layoff this morning during the qualifying session at Mohawk Racetrack.

The millionaire son of Northern Luck had not seen charted action since finishing ninth in Mohawk's $702,000 Canadian Pacing Derby on August 16.

With Paul MacDonell at his controls, Silent Swing left from Post 6 in the fifth race this morning. MacDonell had the bay gelding pacing in second through the first three quarters, cut by Ewie Duncan N and driver Brad Watt in :27.4, :56.3 and 1:25.2.

Conditioned by Jean Louis Arsenault, Silent Swing grabbed the lead before the head of the lane and came home with a final quarter mile in 28 seconds to post a one and three-quarter length victory in 1:53.2.

Silent Swing's mile was the fastest of the morning session.
