Some of the fastest fractions in the history of Truro Raceway were produced in Sunday afternoon's $7,500 Johnny Conroy Memorial, and that sat very well with Samspace and trainer/driver Dennis Baxter.
The four-year-old son of Space Shuttle, who got away in mid-pack, watched Henschke A hammer out punishing panels of :27, :54.4 and 1:24. Baxter picked up some cover for his charge on the way to the three-quarter pole, and Samspace used a :29.1 final frame to propel himself to the lead in deep stretch.
The 14-1 outsider drew away to win by more than a length in an eye-catching clocking of 1:54.3. Outlawpositivcharg, who went first over, held on to finish second in the eight-horse affair. Cam Spade rounded out the top three.
Baxter and partner Arthur Turple of Truro, NS, watched the pacer register his fifth win of the season in 17 starts. The lion's share of the purse lifted Samspace's lifetime earnings to $56,198.
