Rosecroft Facing Uncertainty Without Slots

Representatives from Rosecroft Raceway have told the Maryland Racing Commission that the five-eighths mile oval can no longer afford to stage live racing.

A report in the Washington Post states that the boom in slot machine-infused states such as Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia has had an adverse effect on the racing at Rosecroft.

A referendum on slots for Rosecroft is scheduled for November, and the vote could be critical in the track's survival.

"Without slots, I don't know who would come in and put up that kind of money," said Cricket Goodall, executive director of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association.
