Ramegade Bruiser Upsets In Open Pace

Not only did Ramegade Bruiser pull off a 12-1 upset in the $50,000 Open Pace tonight at Woodbine Racetrack, but he also lowered his lifetime mark to 1:49.4.

With Jody Jamieson in the bike, the five-year-old son of Rambaran carved out brisk fractions of :26, :54.1 and 1:22 before kicking away by over three lengths for the win.

Hyperion Hanover (Rick Zeron) rode the pocket for second and Secrets Nephew (Lyle McArthur) finished third.

Ramegade Bruiser scored his third consecutive victory and ninth of the season for trainer and owner David Brown. His 28th career win lifted his bankroll to $556,739.

In the $30,000 Preferred Pace for four-year-olds, Joey Rico (Luc Ouellette) was the early leader posting the opening panel in :26.3, but Eagle On It and driver Sylvain Filion surged to the top from fifth reaching the half in :55.4.

The 9-2 second choice battled with Mr Saratoga (Jody Jamieson) en route to the third quarter station in a brisk 1:22.4, but Eagle On It kicked away by four lengths in the stretch, winning in a career best time of 1:51.2.

The son of Grinfromeartoear scored his 11th lifetime victory and increased his earnings to $154,749 for trainer Doug McNair and owner Frank Dettore of North Ridgeville, Ohio.

In other action, Montreal Phil maintained a spotless seasonal record after prevailing in Race 3.

With Mario Baillargeon in the bike, the four-year-old gelding scored his eighth consecutive victory after popping the pocket before the half and pacing to the wire in 1:54.

The son of Blissful Hall, who recently moved to the Ben Wallace barn, is owned by Hudson Standrdbrd Stb Inc. of Hudson, Que. In his perfect aged career, Montreal Phil has earned $47,200 in conditioned events.
