The Monday evening program at Woodbine Racetrack was dominated by longshots to start the card, and that included this week's edition of the $50,000 Open Trot.
Abe Linkin and Doug Brown kicked off the festivities with a 45-1 shocker in the opener before Mark MacDonald wrapped up the Daily Double wager with Kirby Lad, who clicked at odds of 12-1 in Race 2.
MacDonald was right back to victory in Race 3 with Please Poppy, who rallied for a 6-1 upset over five of the circuit's top older trotters.
The four-year-old son of Self Possessed worked out a pocket trip behind race favourite Armbro Chronicle, who served up fractions of :26.4, :56 and 1:25.1 in his quest for a third consecutive win in the class.
Misterizi made a first-over charge at the tempo-setter around the final turn, and actually cleared to the top turning for home. That lead was a short-lived one, however, as Please Poppy mowed that rival down thanks to his :27.4 final quarter speed.
The Per Henriksen drew off to win by more than two lengths over Misterizi. Chick N Tell rallied to finish third.
Please Poppy has put together a 6-2-1 record in 17 starts this season for partners Bjorn Skabo of Oslo and Ragnar Hagen of Sandefjord, NOR. The $25,000 payday bumped the trotter's overall bankroll to $376,358.
