Ouellette Rebounds From Freak Accident

When your nickname is "Lightning", it comes as no surprise that a few black clouds will follow you around. That's been the case this year for driver "Lightning" Luc Ouellette.

Ouellette spent a number of weeks on the sidelines earlier this summer after being involved in a scary spill at Flamboro Downs on July 11, and earlier this evening he was involved in a freak accident at Mohawk Racetrack.

As the field for Race 6 was getting ready to enter the stretch, the cross bar on Ouellette's race bike snapped in half. Ouellette, who was sitting near the back of the field at the time, was very fortunate to avoid being trampled by trailing horses.

Ouellette's charge, JK Born To Run, did an extra lap of the track before being apprehended. The colt came away from the incident with no injuries.

Ouellette, who was hobbling around on one leg as a result of the spill, bounced back to win the very next race with Sundowner Bob. He did, however, book off his final three drives when his ankle began to swell.

Ouellette is scheduled to drive Dali in Thursday's Little Brown Jug.
