Northlands Park kicked off their meet on Friday night and they did it in style, with four Stake races on the 10-dash program.
The Brad Gunn Sales Stake was for three-year-old filly pacers.
Modern Legacy made every call a winning one in the $27,100 first division. The Jate Lobell – Modigliani filly had things her own way on the front for trainer/driver Keith Clark and she sprinted home en route to a two and a quarter-length triumph in 1:57.2. Demis Luck (John Campbell) was second best while Freenicki (Gerry Hudon) completed the top three.
Clark co-owns Modern Legacy with Pay Elynuik and Laurence Swalm. In 13 seasonal starts, she is 4-1-3 with earnings of $38,109.
In the $27,400 second split, Bedrock Motel took advantage of a rail trip for trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt. The daughter of The Panderosa – No Tell Motel watched things from third most of the mile and found an open lane in the stretch to win by a length in 1:57.1. Rossridge Divine (Jamie Gray) finished in the place spot while the show went to A Ps Money Maker (Bill Tanish Jr.).
Blair Corbeil and Hoerdt are the owners of Bedrock Motel, who is two-for-12 as a sophomore, banking $80,769 for her connections.
The Forest Wilson Sales Stake was for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings.
Barona Grizzly closed best of all to take the $27,100 first event for driver Brent Grundy. The As Promised – Celica Seelster gelding sat sixth and rode third-over cover before swooping the leaders and posting a two-length decision in 1:57. G Ts Triple J (Bill Tanish Jr.) finished second and Rossridge Dynamo (Gerry Hudon) was third.
Richard Schneider trains and co-owns the sophomore with partners David Halmosi and Dick Schneider. In 17 starts this year, Barona Grizzly is 4-2-5 and has a bankroll of $36,215.
Gravel Crusher crushed his seven rivals in the $27,400 second tilt. In rein to Mike Hennessey, the As Promised – Gravel Gertie gelding went on a front-end mission, holding a 16-length cushion at the head of the stretch before closing out a 13-length romp in 1:56.1. Strong Signal (Kelly Hoerdt) was the best of the rest while Bad Dude (Gerry Hudon) completed the top three.
Robin Chase conditions Gravel Crusher for Dr. Karen Hage, Greg Gillis and Gladys Schmitke. The gelding is five-for-eight in his three-year-old campaign, gathering purses of $32,812.
In the $16,100 Fillies and Mares Open Pace, Stabilo prevailed by four and a quarter lengths in 1:55.3 for trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt. Hoerdt shares partnership on the four-year-old Mach Three mare with Erna Corbeil, and they have seen Stabilo win five races this season from 23 tries and collect purses of $82,090.
