Norway No Day Wins Rideau Preferred

It was a case of turning the tables in Thursday’s Preferred Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway for Norway No Day, who converted off a pocket trip to take home the lion’s share of the $13,400 purse.

One week ago the six-year-old daughter of Self Possessed had to settle for second prize after getting picked off in the final strides by an off the pace foe. Tonight, however, she did the hunting.

Norway No Day and driver Yves Filion sat in the pocket draft of Mr Garjangles, who sliced out splits of :28.2, :59.3 and 1:29.4 over a track rated “good” with a two-second allowance.

Filion angled the Justin Filion-trained mare to the outside in the stretch, and she used a :30.3 final frame to trot away from the competition in a respectable clocking of 2:00.3 over the tiring track. Rate Exchange was second to the even-money favourite and Mr Garjangles faded to finish third.

Ecuries R L Belanger of Laval, QC holds the papers on the 23-time winner, who boosted her lifetime bankroll in excess of $260,000.
