Dick Macomber's Nifty Norman completed a near sweep of the Hal Belote Memorial Late Closing Series with a dominant win the 1-1/4 mile final on Tuesday night at Colonial Downs.
Nifty Norman finished fourth in the second leg but won the first and third legs by a combined 11 1/4 lengths to establish himself as the 1-5 favourite for the $12,800 Final.
Driver Sean Bier was content to let Nifty Norman settle into fourth as the field raced around the first turn, but he brushed to the top shortly past the 58.3 mid-way point.
He raced unchallenged into the turn and took the field to the three-quarter pole in 1:27.4 before stepping past the mile marker in 1:55.4. He finished off the mile on cruise control en route to defeating Rare Filly and Oh Gee Whiz.
The Belote Final was Nifty Norman's tenth of the season and the 23rd of his career.
