Muscle Mass Tops Harrisburg Sale

The Standardbred Horse Sale wrapped up this afternoon with the third session of the mixed sale and world record holder Muscle Mass garnered the highest big of the day and topped the entire sale with a price tag of $520,000.

The three-year-old son of Muscles Yankee – Graceful Touch was purchased by Atlantic Trot Inc., acting as agent, from the Northwood Bloodstock Agency consignment. Muscle Mass, a winner of $229,000 in purses, set a world record and took his lifetime mark of 1:53.4 in his freshman campaign. He is the full brother to Muscle Massive, who sold on the first day of the yearling sales for $425,000.

Consigned by Fashion Farm, Mystery Chase was the next highest priced racehorse of today's mixed sale. He brought a final bid of $300,000 from Donald E. Russell of Waldorf, Maryland. The three-year-old colt by Real Artist out of Search For Cam, who took his mark of 1:49.2 in the Meadowlands Pace Consolation this summer, has earned $389,371 in purses.

Blueridge Western was purchased by Francis H. Azur of Bejup for $240,000. The three-year-old son of Allamerican Ingot - Her Airness, who was consigned by Northwood Bloodstock Agency, has made $617,752 in his career and holds a mark of 1:50.1 taken this year in the Berrys Creek Final.

With 1,100 horses selling for a gross of $24.4 million and averaging $22,234, sale totals were at their lowest level since 2005.
