The magic number was "one" for driver Mike Horner to join the 2,000-win club, and he hit the target in today's sixth race at Western Fair Raceway.
Horner, who has driven winners in excess of $10 million, rolled Stigma Seelster through panels of :29.3, 1:00.3 and 1:30.2 en route to a 2:00.4 score.
The gelding, who is trained by Mike's brother, Mark, is owned by Linda Richardson of St. Marys and Sure Gain Stable of Mitchell, ON.
Horner has plied his trade since the mid 80s on the Southwestern Ontario circuit, racing for the most part at Western Fair and Windsor Raceways. He strung together three consecutive $1 million seasons from 2000-2002.
The richest victory of his career came in 2005 with Button Up, who stepped to an impressive victory in $300,000 Battle of Waterloo final at Grand River Raceway.
