Construction is rolling full speed ahead at Pinnacle Race Course in Wayne County, Michigan, and majority owner Jerry Campbell believes the targeted opening day of July 18 will be a reality.
"This is what you call, 'On the fly,'" Campbell, referring to the pace of the construction, told The Detroit News.
The report states that the parking lot is expected to be paved this week and the 1,000-seat grandstand is on the verge of being erected. Maybe most surprisingly of all, the thoroughbreds are expected to be working over the track in two days' time.
Commenting on initiatives that need to be taken for racing to thrive, Campbell stated, "I think we need to reestablish heroes. To do that, you not only have to produce heroes but the media has to pick them up."
