Maple Leaf Jet jetted to the front on Wednesday at Sudbury Downs and later landed in the winner's circle to take the $3,750 Not Listed Preferred Trot.
Handled by trainer Richard Turcotte, the nine-year-old Balance Of Trade gelding made the lead from the outside Post 6 in :30.2 and was soon under siege from the first-over Armbro Edward (Justin Turcotte). Those two raced as a team and broke the half-mile beam in :59.2.
Maple Leaf Jet turned on the jets in the third quarter when he opened up to two lengths at the 1:30.2 three-quarters, which is where he began to trot away from his five rivals, widening his cushion to three lengths at the wire. He stopped the clock in 2:01.4.
Power Earl (Rob Coursol) was second while Wawa (Steve Scrannage) recovered from a break to grab third.
Ronald Eaton owns Maple Leaf Jet, who has won three of his four 2008 starts since being put on the Lasix program. A 32-time winner lifetime, the victory pushed his bank account to $158,251.
