After missing over a month of racing, Armbro Chronicle returned to the track at Kawartha Downs on Tuesday and he went wire-to-wire to win the $15,000 Open Trot.
With Post 6, driver Mike Saftic hustled the five-year-old gelded son of Self Possessed off the gate and they grabbed a two-length lead after a big first quarter in :27.1. Slowing the tempo down in the second quarter, the duo stole a breather in :31, getting to the half in :58.1.
The damage was probably done there as Armbro Chronicle blazed to the three-quarters in 1:27.1 before sprinting home in :28.3 for a 1:55.4 score.
Spare Time Rozie (Rick Zeron) was beat a length in second as favourite. Chick N Tell (Mark MacDonald) took home the bronze.
Kent Baker trains Armbro Chronicle ($8.90) and co-owns the trotter with partners Carl Patterson, Wayne Smith and Randy Fielder. He is in the midst of a career year, winning seven of his 28 starts with earnings of $209,382. Lifetime, Armbro Chronicle has 15 career victories and a bankroll of $385,674.
