Kalahari Riff Gives Brief Scare

On Sunday, August 24 at the Yorkton Exhibition, Kalahari Riff gave his backers an early scare in the Frank Farrell Memorial Pace.

Bred, owner, trained and driven by Kevin Seiver, the four-year-old Bo Knows Jate gelding started from Post 4 in the eight-horse field. Seiver got the chestnut off the gate, but the odds-on favourite proceeded to make a break prior to the opening quarter.

Rebounding from his miscue, the career winner of 16 of 28 races got back on his game and powered to the lead, wrestling back control of the contest prior to the half.

Opening up his lead during the third panel, Kalahari Riff, who has only missed hitting the board three times in his career, went on to win by more than three lengths in 2:00.4.

From nine starts this year, Kalahari Riff has posted six wins, three second-place finishes and lowered his mark to 1:56.2 over the five-eighths mile course at Marquis Downs.
