The spotlight was on two-year-old pacing fillies at Northlands Park on Thursday evening, as the Edmonton oval hosted a trio of divisions of the Junior Miss Stakes.
Onaway took her $35,733 division in a time of 1:57.4, winning as she pleased for trainer/driver Kelly Hoerdt. Greg Martin holds the papers on the two-time winner, who upped her lifetime earnings to $29,333 with the win.
The daughter of With Held rallied from just off the pace to win in going away fashion over Jennas Pass and Arctic Flame.
Sealedwithapromise also used her closing skills to post a victory in the second split. The As Promised miss used a :28.2 final frame en route to stopping the teletimer in 1:58.3. It was a maiden-breaking effort for the filly, who defeated HF Agent Nintynine and Blue Star Success.
Trainer/driver Keith Clark, who had three wins on the card, co-owns the youngster with fellow Albertans MacPherson Standardbreds, Verne Rea and Laurence Swalm.
Lady And Thetrench lost her maiden status in her $37,542 assignment, giving trainer/driver Keith Clark his second stakes victory on the card.
The daughter of Armbro Trench, who was sent off at odds of 16-1, used a :29.1 final quarter to post the narrow triumph over even-money favourite Nazko Finally. Barona Hush rounded out the top three.
