In its industry review report released in June, the Ontario Government proposed Horse Racing Ontario as a governing body going forward. Given the current industry landscape in Alberta, many are speaking out on the idea.
Northlands Park's chairman of the board of directors, Jerry Bouma, has told The Globe and Mail that if adopted the change could have "devastating consequences" to Ontario racetracks.
Bouma told The Globe and Mail that based on the report, Alberta's Horse Racing Alberta seems to be the model to follow. He said that HRA is "not all goodness and light."
In The Globe and Mail article, many industry participants weigh in, including retorts from HRA chairman and chief executive officer Dr. David Reid.
