In Sunday's second race at Flamboro Downs, seven-year-old Fiesty G G mare Indys Kylee broke the aged trotting mare track record when she tripped the timer in 1:56.1.
In rein to Stuart Sowerby for trainer Sandra Houghton, the career winner of $270,990 went to the front from Post 4 and didn't look back, trotting to a one and a quarter-length win, which went down as a new life's mark.
The time of the mile also established a new Canadian record for aged trotting mares on a half-mile track, shaving four-fifths of a second off the 1:57 mark of Whatthehecklavec taken at Hanover Raceway in 2006.
"She had a second and a win in her two previous starts," Houghton told Trot Insider this afternoon. "I knew that she was sharp, but I didn't expect that kind of performance out of her."
Indys Kylee was claimed by current owners Lance Hall and Aristi Varsakis in mid-February and has been a consistent cheque-getter since the move.
