Only three horses lined up in the $4,000 S.S.B.O.A. Prairie Pace on Friday at the Yorkton Exhibition, but it soon turned into a one-horse race as Kalahari Riff extended his win streak to four.
Handled by trainer Kevin Siever, the four-year-old Bo Knows Jate gelding was up and taking over the lead from Manwiththebigcigar (Glenn Le Drew) after the :29 opening quarter. Once Kalahari Riff was on the front, his two other rivals never stood a chance.
The pacer scooted through splits of :59 and 1:29.1 before tripping the teletimer in 1:59. Manwiththebigcigar was three and one half-length back in second while Fortitude (Laurie Bell) finished third.
Siever also bred and owns Kalahari Riff, who is 5-3-0 in eight starts this season, banking $6,171. Now a 15-time winner from 27 starts, he increased his bank account to $17,147.
