Lakota Hall converted from second-over for trainer/driver Walter Cheverie to take Friday's $20,000 Gold Cup and Saucer Consolation at the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre.

The race, which was named the James "Roach" MacGregor Memorial, had a field of eight going postward in the finale of the evening card.

Henschke A (Darren Crowe) was uncontrollable on the front-end and set sizzling splits of :26.4, :54 and 1:24, holding a three-length lead turning for home.

Lakota Hall, meanwhile, watched the action from fifth and Cheverie had him following the cover of Kuai Diam N (Mike MacDonald) in the third quarter. With four lengths to make up in the final eighth, Lakota Hall was unleashed by Cheverie and he mowed down Henschke A, winning by three-quarters of a length in 1:54.2.

Kuai Diam N was third.

Cheverie co-owns Lakota Hall with partner John Thompson. He is four-for-11 this year with earnings of $16,190. The eight-year-old Cambest stud has 35 career victories and a bankroll of $294,610.
