Federal Flex Primed For Champlain Stakes

Carl Jamieson's highly-regarded Federal Flex is set to impress again tonight in his $111,636 division of the Champlain stakes for two-year-old trotters.

The two-year-old son of Muscles Yankee may have only two starts under his belt, but he has been flawless in both of those, and goes into the Champlain Stakes as the 2-1 choice in the first of three flights of freshman colts.

A $100,000 yearling purchase at Harrisburg last year, Federal Flex turned heads earlier in August when he made short work of his peers in the Bridger Trotting Series at Mohawk. Jamieson has reportedly turned down seven-figure offers for the colt already.

Another possible star-in-the-making will be going postward in the third of the three Champlain divisions.

American invader Encore Encore has already chalked up four wins in six starts of his freshman career, including victories in the Tompkins Stakes at Tioga Downs in July, and in his elimination for the Haughton Memorial at The Meadowlands, before sickness forced him to opt out of the Haughton Final.

Richard Gillock trains the son of Broadway Hall, who'll have phenom driver Tim Tetrick to guide him as he leaves from Post 4.

The Champlain Stakes are featured as Races 3, 5, and 7 on tonight's stakes-rich card at Mohawk Racetrack.
