The BC Standardbred Association has reported that Fraser Downs trainer Sten Ericsson was admitted to the Peace Arch Hospital, in White Rock, BC earlier this week after suffering a stroke at his home.
Ericsson's wife Sandra said it was a big scare but the trainer is recovering.
"He is recognizing people when they enter the room now, so that's a good sign," she told the BCSA.
Swedish born Ericsson is a Fraser Downs veteran and has been a successful trainer in BC for many years. Prior to moving to BC, Ericsson was a trainer/driver at Northlands Park and had a great association with the pacer Scruffy Hanover.
As a driver, Sten has steered more than 1,000 winners for purses of over $2.2 million. As a trainer his horses have banked $2.3 million.
