Define The World Dominates In Gold Final

Define The World continued his dominance over Ontario-sired rivals with a convincing 1:53.3 victory in tonight's $140,000 OSS Gold Final for three-year-old colt and gelding trotters at Mohawk Racetrack.

The victory may also have prompted his connections to supplement the son of Duke Of York - Venice Holiday to this weekend's Kentucky Futurity at The Red Mile in Lexington.

In tonight's contest, driver Paul MacDonell left patiently with Define The World from Post 9 and settled in third behind Nureyev and Superfast Stuart as the field reached the opening marker in :27.2.

MacDonell wasted little time in moving his charge to command just before the half in :56.1 and he continued on top through three panels in 1:25.4. He was easily able to fend off a first-over challenge from Hot And Coldplay on the final turn and then trotted clear of the field with a sharp :27.4 final frame.

Nureyev finished a solid second with Superfast Stuart holding on for the show spot.

The clocking also produced a new national standard for three-year-old trotting geldings which was held formerly by Captain Brady in 1:54.

"I think he's risen to the top of the class and I wanted to get control of the race," said MacDonell. "I had to work a little harder then I wanted to, but he had lots in reserve at the end."

Following the race, the colt's owner Al Libfeld suggested that supplementing Define The World to this weekend's Kentucky Futurity was a strong possibility.

"Paul and I were just discussing it and I think we're probably going to head that way," said owner Al Libfeld. "I'll talk to John (trainer John Bax) this evening or tomorrow and just confirm plans and hopefully head down there."

This latest victory is the fourth straight for Define The World and gives him 11 overall this year from 18 starts. The winner's share of the purse boosted his bankroll to more than $474,000.
