There was no shortage of trotting talent on display at Mohawk Racetrack on Monday evening, as the Campbellville oval rolled out the red carpet to a trio of square-gaited millionaires - Snazzy Millie ($1.1M), Abbey Road C ($1.8M) and JM Vangogh ($1.9M).
The latter took a new lifetime mark of 1:52.4 at the ripe old age of eight for the duo of trainer Ron Waples and driver Trevor Ritchie.
Ritchie quarter-poled the son of Earl to the lead, and that proved to be the winning move for the OSS graduate. Paul Chambers of Harrington, DE and John Mello of Georgetown, MA share ownership on the 46-time winner.
Ritchie also struck gold in the $47,000 Open Trot thanks to an ultra-impressive score with Armbro Continental, who was making his first pari-mutuel start since January 19, 2008 for partners Steve Bossence, Max Berketa and Doug Woodhouse.
The Bossence trainee used off-the-pace tactics to stop the clock in a time of 1:53.1. In doing so, he put an end to Scorpion Moon's eight-race win streak. That rival finished second, and third went to Armbro Chronicle.
Armbro Continental upped his lifetime earnings to $350,610 with the victory.
