Despite a difficult trip, Chick N Tell managed to pull off a gutsy victory for the duo of trainer Steve Doyle and driver Mike Saftic in Monday's $38,000 Preferred Trot at Mohawk Racetrack.
The six-year-old son of Glory B River, who came into tonight's assignment fresh off a sixth-place finish in the $728,600 Maple Leaf Trot final at Mohawk on September 20, survived a first-over trip to win in a time of 1:53.3 for Doyle and partner John Simmonds of King City, Ontario.
Chick N Tell hustled his way into the four hole as the field headed towards the opening turn chasing race favourite Mystical Ryan, who zipped by the quarter pole in :27.1. He maintained the lead to the mid-way point in :56.1 before coming under final turn attack from Chick N Tell.
The battled continued to the three quarter pole, which popped up in 1:24.4, before Chick N Tell managed to edge away. He used a :28.3 final frame to post the victory over Mystical Ryan and San Pail.
Chick N Tell has constructed a 5-3-1 record in 23 starts this season while adding $185,355 to his career bankroll, which sits at $443,941.
