After coming second-over early and three-wide off the final turn, Sugarcane Yankee and driver John Campbell captured the $60,047 Standardbred Stake for two-year-old trotting fillies this afternoon at the Delaware Ohio County Fairgrounds in 2:01.

Campbell and Sugarcane Yankee, the daughter of Windsongs Legacy, were mid-pack at the :29.1 opening quarter-mile marker, but were positioned second over at the 1:00.3 half-mile pole.

Campbell sent his charge three-high in the third quarter and challenged the leader as the third stanza flashed in 1:31.2.

Coming on in the lane, Campbell and the Randy Beeckman-trained Sugarcane Yankee hit the wire first, pushing the filly's seasonal slate to 3-2-0 from five starts.

Northmedo Esther and driver Jody Jamieson finished second, while Graceful Sister -- part of a five-horse entry -- finished third for pilot Brian Sears.
