On Saturday afternoon, Woodstock Raceway hosted seven $20,000 OSS Grassroots divisions for two-year-old pacers and colts sired by Astreos dominated the card.
Driver Jason Brewer doubled up, winning the two fastest divisions with a pair of Astreo colts.
Thunderfist sat in the pocket spot behind the early pacesetter Fast Pay (Scott Coulter) through panels of :28.2 and :57.4 before sweeping out to capture the lead as the field approached the third quarter pole in 1:27.3. Brewer guided the 12-1 shot home in :31, posting a four length win in 1:58.3.
Seymour Dinomyte (Dave Wall) was second and Medoland Glenno (Jody Jamieson) finished third.
Thunderfist is a two-time winner trained and co-owned by Dr. Ian Moore of Charlottetown, P.E.I.
Brewer guided Shortstacked to his second straight Grassroots victory in 1:59.2 for trainer and co-owner Erv Miller of Springfield, Illinois. The post time favourite sports a record of eight wins in nine starts in his debut season.
Driver Brad Forward also picked up a couple of close victories aboard two freshman colts out of Astreos.
Sterling Chris won his division in 2:03 for trainer James Dean and owner John Fielding of Toronto, Ont. The win was his second this year.
Lyons Sign also made his second visit to the winner's circle. The Bill Robinson trainee paced the mile in 2:01.4. He is owned by Joseph Lyons Mound of Flint Shire, England.
Other divisional winners include the Astreos colt In A Craze (Robert Shepherd) in 2:00, The Ladies Man in 2:00.4 (James Ritchie) and Pictonian Pride (Jody Jamieson) in 2:00.2.
The two-year-old pacing colt's impressive efforts completed the 2008 Ontario Sires Stakes engagements at Woodstock Raceway. The colts make their second last Grassroots start at Dresden Raceway on September 28 before heading to Flamboro Downs on October 8 for the last regular season event.
