Aged Pacers Under The Radar

With the harness racing world focusing its attention on the World Trotting Derby and the major stakes card at Mohawk last week, three aged pacers that at one time made major headlines - Dunachton Gale, Artist Stena and Buckeye One - managed to slip past the mainstream eye with notable accomplishments over the past few days.

On Thursday morning at Truro Raceway, Atlantic Canadian superstar Dunachton Gale made his first appearance of the season a winning one with a 2:00.1 romp by over 17 lengths for trainer-driver Phil Pinkney.

At Rideau Carleton on Friday night, 1998 Adios Pace winner and former Quebec-based stallion Artist Stena - at the age of 13 - returned to the races in a $6,000 claiming event and finished third for trainer and co-owner Richard Moreau & Gabriel Moreau.

Saturday night at Mohawk Racetrack was filled with highlights and headlines, but one fourth place finisher surpassed a major career earnings milestone. With his cheque from last night's race, Mohawk's overall track record holder Buckeye One picked up enough cash to boast career earnings of $1,000,752 for trainer-driver Rick Zeron and owners Ian Fromowitz of Richmond Hil and John Fielding of Toronto, Ont.
