Joseph Nearing's Sly Baran ($4.30) made every call a winning one in Wednesday night's (Sept. 9) featured winners-over pacing event at Inverness Raceway, claiming his third victory in his last four starts.
The seven-year-old son of Rambaran used the pole to his complete advantage, securing the early lead in line to Redmond Doucet and refusing to relinquish it at any point. After rating splits of :28.2, :58 and 1:27.2, Sly Baran steadily extended his margin through the final turn and into the stretch. He used a :28.4 final quarter to cap a 1:56.1 mile and finish seven lengths clear of his nearest rival, Lo Lo Lo Logan. Dashpedia was just collared for the runner-up spot after tiring in his pursuit from the pocket.
Sly Baran, who has already amassed 17 starts this year since only returning to action on June 13, has won four of them, and has won 21 races throughout his career. Doucet led all drivers with a hat trick on the eight-race program.
