Pompano Park has announced that Gabe Prewitt has been named as the announcer at the Florida five-eighths mile oval.
John Yinger, Director of Racing, said the track is "ecstatic to have been able to retain the services of Gabe, who we believe is one of the great voices of —- and for —- our sport.
“He has great credentials and we look forward to his excellent and entertaining calls.”
Indeed, Prewitt’s credentials are impressive.
Originally a fan of thoroughbred racing, Prewitt saw his first harness race while he was attending college.
“I moved across the street from The Red Mile,” he said, "and began my racing career as a teller there in 2002. In 2006, I became backup announcer and took over as a full time announcer in 2007.”
Prewitt has been the voice of The Red Mile ever since and was also announcer at Buffalo Raceway for their last two seasons.
Prewitt continued, “I am looking forward to beginning the next chapter of my career in South Florida and it is truly an honour to assume this new role, especially in Pompano’s 50th anniversary season.
Prewitt is expected to begin his new duties in early November.
