Blistering Fractions In Mohawk Preferred

As the field of Preferred pacers hit the three-quarters mark in the $38,000 event on Saturday at Mohawk Racetrack in a track record 1:19.3 clocking, Bettor Again had moved first up and was ready to strike after sitting behind the hot early fractions put up by Foreclosure N.

Leaving from post position six in the Preferred Pace with Tim Tetrick in the sulky, Foreclosure N took control of seven-horse field and fired off fractions of :25.3, :52.4 and 1:19.3 while building up a six length lead on his foes. But Bettor Again and trainer-driver Mike Vanderkemp, who had followed back in third at the rail, rolled first up during the third panel and eventually swept by the tiring leader in the stretch en route to a three and a half length triumph in a career-best 1:48.2. Foreclosure N stayed for second while early trailer and odds on favourite Classic Rock Nroll, driven by Doug McNair, came on for third.

Bettor Again paid $17.70 for the mild 7-1 upset. The five-year-old son of Bettors Delight notched his sixth win in 18 starts this year for the Patricia Stable of New York.

In the $42,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace, Rebeka Bayama front-stepped her way to a 1:50.3 triumph in rein to Sylvain Filion. The 1-5 favourite worked her way to the lead from post six during a :27-second opening panel and cruised through middle splits of :55.1 and 1:23.4 before sprinting home :26.4 to outlast first over advancer Royal Cee Cee N, driven by Ron Pierce, and pocket-sitter Swinging Beauty, reined by McNair.

Rebeka Bayama paid $2.50 to win. Justin Filion trains the five-year-old Leader Bayama mare for owner-breeder Bayama Farms Inc. of Saint-Andre-D'Argenteuil, Que. The win was her sixth in 13 seasonal starts.
