Twin B Tuffenuff won a Sunday, Sept. 8 afternoon Preferred Pace slugfest on a rescheduled program at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
In the $4,500 Preferred Pace, race favourite Roll Em (Marc Campbell) moved to the front at the :27.4 opening station and led through the next two splits of :57 and 1:26.3. Twin B Tuffenuff (Gilles Barrieau) was sitting fourth up the backstretch and made his bid first-over at that third quarter and battled to the wire to win by a head in 1:54.1 for owner Pat Morris of Charlottetown and trainer Ron Matheson. Roll Em was second best with Bee Two Bee (Jason Hughes) completing the triactor.
Matheson and Barrieau also won earlier on the program with House Edge Hanover in 1:54.4.
Marc Campbell had the hot hands on the afternoon as he extended his lead in the drivers standings for an incredible 15th straight season. The ‘King Of Island Racing’ hit the wire first with Phil My Beer (1:59.1) in race one then the two-year-old colt's older full-brother Macho Phil was victorious in race seven in 1:56.3, both for trainer Landon Campbell. The father-son Campbell team celebrated in the winner’s circle with Jewels Dragon (1:54.1) in race nine then Marc Campbell had catch-driving wins with Bacononabiscuit (1:54.1) in race 12 for trainer Melissa Rennie and Avatar J (1:55.4) in the race 14 finale for trainer Darren Smith.
Driver Ken Murphy celebrated a driving triple with Heres To Art (1:58.3) in race five for trainer Clifford Murphy, Spack Jarrow (1:57.2) in race 10 for trainer Raymond White and Rymar Jimbo (1:56.4) from the Eric Doucette stable in race 11.
