Three divisions. Two new lifetime marks. One trio of dominating fillies.

Madame Madelyn, Purple Aura and Miss Cowboy Star took the three divisions of the $17,500 Buckeye Stallion Series for two-year-old filly trotters on Wednesday (Sept. 8) at Eldorado Scioto Downs. Both Madame Madelyn and Purple Aura set new lifetime marks of 1:58.1 and have now each won their last four starts. Miss Cowboy Star, who won in 1:58.3, has now won six straight in the Buckeye State.

In the first division, Abbey D (Shawn Barker) took the early lead, but by the :28.4 opening quarter, Madame Madelyn (Trevor Smith) was out and moving from third. The pair took control for the remainder of the splits - :58 and 1:27.3 - and won by 3 1/4 lengths in 1:58.1 as the 8-5 favourite. Abbey D finished second with Sisteralice (Jeremy Smith) third. Madame Madelyn (What The Hill-Glidemyway) is trained by Todd Luther for Black Magic Racing. The filly was a $26,000 Ohio Select Sale yearling purchase.

Purple Aura (Anthony MacDonald) left straight for the lead from post five and led at every call. The 3-5 favourite set fractions of :29, :59.2 and 1:28.4, coming home in :29.2 to win by 6-1/4 lengths in 1:58.1. We Go We Go (Brett Miller) made a first-over bid after the half and finished second. Moola Makin Connie (Chris Page) sat third along the rail for the entire mile and came up the passing lane to finish third. Purple Aura (Creatine-Purple Sona) is trained by Jason McGinnis for Thestable Purple Aura and Hutchison Harness. The filly, who was also purchased at the Ohio Select sale, this one for $20,000, now has $38,256 earned for the year.

Miss Cowboy Star (Brett Miller) took the last division of the Buckeye Stallion Series in 1:58.3. The filly briefly sat in the pocket for the :29 opening quarter but was out and moving at the three-eighths mark. Once up top, Miss Cowboy Star set fractions of :58.4 and 1:28.3. The 1-2 favourite won by a neck over Onetwoskipafew (MacDonald); I Luv To Motor (Mike Wilder) finished third. Miss Cowboy Star (Long Tom-Emerald Myway) is trained by Edward Miller for Rebecca Sugg, Steven Maas and Duke Sugg. The $15,000 Ohio Select Sale purchase has now won her last six starts and earned $42,663.

Buckeye Stallion Series action continues this week at Scioto with the two-year-old filly pacers on Thursday (Sept. 9), and two-year-old colt and three-year-old filly pacers on Saturday (Sept. 11). Also on Saturday is the $135,000 Jim Ewart Memorial for older male pacers.
