Brodys Scrapper Scoots To Flamboro Win

Sliding to the lead from first over, Brodys Scrapper scored a 1:53.4 victory in the $11,500 Preferred 2 Pace at Flamboro Downs on Tuesday (Sept. 8).

Captain Cash cleared command from post 4 heading to a :27.4 first quarter and continued to lead unchallenged to a :56.3 half. Brodys Scrapper, racing fourth, edged first over moving to the half and ranged towards the pacesetter tracked by 6-5 favourite Pedro Hanover approaching three-quarters in 1:24.4. Captain Cash gave way to Brodys Scrapper into the final turn, and the Rachel Andrew trainee opened a two-length lead into the stretch which he held while pursued by second-place finisher Pedro Hanover. Pro Beach closed from last for third.

A nine-year-old gelding by Mach Three, Brodys Scrapper won his fifth race from 20 starts this season and his 33rd from 162 overall, earning $266,971. Travis Cullen drove the $6.00 winner who he co-owns with Rachel Andrew.

Odds-on favourite Hello Love leapt to the lead past the half and won the $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Pace in a 1:53.4 blowout.

Driver Scott Coulter landed in third with Hello Love as Major League N cleared the lead from post 8 to a :26.4 first quarter. Coulter tipped the five-year-old Shadow Play mare off the pegs moving to a :56 half and rolled away from the field. Hello Love led by five lengths to three-quarters in 1:24.4 and widened that margin through the stretch to win by 11 lengths over Outlaw Imahotvixen closing for second. I Wish You Well finished third.

Owned by Hello Love Stable, Landmark 11 Racing Stable and Landmark 10 Racing Stable, Hello Love won her fifth race from 17 starts this season and her 18th from 66 overall, earning $225,622. Shawn Steacy trains the $3.50 winner.

Pocket-sitter G A Speed Sammy moved for the lead into the stretch to score a narrow win in the $8,500 Preferred 3 Pace. The Colin Johnson trainee stalked pacesetter Prestige Seelster through fractions of :27.1, :56.3 and 1:25.1 before vacating pocket turning for the finish. The five-year-old Shanghai Phil gelding took command into the stretch and withstood a late charge from About A Boy to win by three-quarter lengths in 1:55.1.

Driven by J. R. Plante for owners Debbie Element and Stephane Brosseau, G A Speed Sammy won her second race from 11 starts this season and her 19th from 44 overall, earning $91,201. She paid $2.90 to win.
