The Goshen Yearling Sale took place at the Mark Ford Training Center in Middletown, NY on Sunday (Sept. 8).

Consignments from Blue Chip Farm, Cameo Hills Farm, Hanover Shoe Farms and Winbak Farm made up the 107 available yearlings (there were two ‘outs,’ both pacing fillies). A total of 52 colts and 55 fillies comprised the 32 trotters and 75 pacers available in the sale that are eligible to the lucrative sire stakes programs in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ontario.

The sale topper was Hip #16, Stop Staring, a bay colt by So Surreal out of the Dragon Again mare Paramelons Hanover that was bred by Steve Jones of Montgomery, NY. Stop Staring was purchased for $95,000 by Ray Schnittker of Middletown, NY.

Two pacing colts were each acquired after $75,000 bids.

The first of the pacing colts was Hip #51, Boozer, a son of American Ideal out of the Well Said mare Whiskey A Go Go that was also bred by Steve Jones of Montgomery, NY. Boozer was acquired by Paul Kelley of Gansevoort, NY.

The second of the pacing colts was Hip #90, Scratch Golfer, a son of So Surreal out of the Duneside Perch mare Dune In Red bred by Hero Stables of Goshen, NY. Scratch Golfer was acquired by Paul Kelley of Gansevoort, NY.

“It was a perfect day for this sale and the large and enthusiastic crowd of buyers were bidding strong all day,” said Mark Ford, President of the Goshen Standardbred Horse Sales Co. “Everyone there was blissfully happy with our location and the ease of access to information through our catalogues and app. The only problem we had was parking because so many people came out. But we’ll have more room available next year as this sale continues to grow.”

The sale average (107 yearlings) was $14,964. The total gross of the sale was in excess of $1.6 million, up 15 percent from last year’s total.
