Wild Dragon turned a second-over trip into a visit to the winner’s circle in the Sunday afternoon feature at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Walter Cheverie engineered the winning drive, getting away fifth in the early going of the race over a rain-soaked track with a three-second variant. The early speed came from the front0-stepping Leading Camdidate, who laid down a :29.3 first quarter, then a half-mile of :59.3. That is when Creighton Hanover came calling first over, engaging Leading Camdidate for the lead at the 1:29.3 three-quarter station, with Wild Dragon on Creighton Hanover’s back. The back field came calling in the stretch, with Wild Dragon winning in 1:59.1 over late rallies from Narragansett and Balanchine, who finished second and third, respectively.
Wild Dragon is co-owned and trained by Darren Trainor with co-owner Jennifer Trainor.
The Billings Driving Challenge was in Summerside with Smart Barney (Mitchell Walker) and Casimir Luciano (Jason Sgrignuoli) dead-heating for the win in 2:05.4 in the first division. Smart Barney is owned and trained by Devon Wallace, while Casimir Luciano is owned and trained by Ralph Sweet.
The other Billings division saw OK Chivas (Sherwin Edwards) victorious in 2:02.2 for owner-trainer John McGuirk.
