The weekly pacing feature at Sudbury Downs went to Rush Rules for the second consecutive week thanks to the last second heroics in Wednesday’s $11,000 affair
.
With Aaron Byron at the controls, the six-year-old son of Scooter Scott got away seventh and sat seventh for the first three quarters of the mile while Awesum Best chopped out panels of :28.1, :58 and 1:27.4. The leader was out of gas by the head of the lane, however, and that opened the door for a host of backfield challengers to vie for the top prize.
Rush Rules uncorked an eye-catching :28.1 final frame, which was good enough to sweep past all six of his hoppled counterparts. He drew clear to win by a one-length margin over Deuces And Jacks in a time of 1:57. Buckys Luck held on for third money after doing the first-over work.
Mike Sinclair trains the gelding, who was sent off as the 9-5 choice in the Not Listed Preferred event. Guy Beaulieu, Rosemary Shelswell and Robert Truman share ownership on the 26-time winner, who upped his earnings to $178,800 with the victory.
