
Typhoon Banner N ($2.80) and driver Ridge Warren won the $20,833 Open Pace at Tioga Downs on Sunday, Sept. 7.
After tracking in third position through opening panels of :26.3 and :55, 2-5 favourite Typhoon Banner N and Warren advanced first-over to challenge pacesetter Rockin On Venus (Tyler Miller) as they approached three-quarters in 1:22.3. Typhoon Banner N began to edge ahead at the top of the stretch and held off Livonjaxandqueens (Kyle DiBenedetto) from behind him to win by a neck in a season's best 1:51.1. Comet Crusader N (Jim Pantaleano) caught Rockin On Venus in a show photo.
Joe Bongiorno trains and co-owns Typhoon Banner N as a partner in JB Racing with Jenn Bongiorno, along with co-owners Philip Steinberg and Barbara Bongiorno. The nine-year-old Bettors Delight-When Your Hot gelding, who was last year's MGM Grand Prix Pacing Series champion, has won three of his 13 starts this year while adding over $85,000 to his career bankroll that now stands at $662,712.
Braxten Boyd drove five winners on the 14-race card. He was first with a pair of Jake Huff trainees, Building Boost ($3.84) and Andover Contessa ($3.44), along with Smart Boy ($5.52) for trainer Laurie Poulin, P L Princess C ($3.90) for Paul Long and Ozark ($2.84) for Steven Brabrook.
