Raising Rusty Career Best In Rideau Preferred

Raising Rusty pulled off an upset victory in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Thursday (Sept. 7) evening and did so in a career-best time. 

Stephane Pouliot and Raising Rusty got away third in the field of six, maintaining that position through the opening panel in :27.1 and half in :56.4. Pouliot pulled his right line and sent the gelding on a charge towards the leading pacesetter Duke Lavictoire (Pascal Berube) as they approached the three-quarters in 1:25.1. In the final turn, Raising Rusty assumed command and took off to win by two lengths in 1:54.4. Crossfit (Guy Gagnon) finished second and Shadrack Hanover (Samuel Fillion) was third.

Trained by Pouliot, Raising Rusty is a six-year-old Kadabra gelding owned by 9096 9205 Quebec Inc. A career winner of $169,514 and 25 races, Raising Rusty has earned a record of 4-5-5 in 20 starts this season. Off at 10-1 odds, he paid $22.50 to win.
