Maritime champion Heart And Soul was on top of his game in the $2,800 pacing feature on a special Labour Day program on Monday (Sept. 7) at Red Shores at Summerside Raceway.

Jason Hughes put the George Riley trainee on the point from the start and laid down opening splits of :28.2 and :58.1. JJ Powerball (Brodie MacPhee) took a shot first-over at the halfway point, but Heart And Soul fought back at the three-quarters in 1:27.

The seven-year-old gelded son of Western Paradise pulled away in the stretch to stop the clock in 1:55.4 at 7-1 over Pillage And Burn (Ken Murphy). JJ Powerball settled for third.

Riley Farms Ltd. holds the ownership papers on 28-time winner Heart And Soul.

Euchred did not disappoint in the afternoon's $2,500 sub-feature, rewarding his backers with a 1:54.4 front-end score for the first part of a Walter Walker training double. Corey MacPherson handled the eight-year-old son of Shadow Play from post one and led at every station to win by two lengths over Hunger Pangs (Jason Hughes), while Cowboy Logic (Steven Shepherd) had his win streak snapped at five races with a third-place finiish. Kayla Habicht Walker owns the 59-time winner.

MacPherson and Walker also teamed up to win with Brief Interlude in a lifetime best of 1:57.3.

MacPherson completed a driving triple in the afternoon finale, as Dangle Ona Dime rushed up the passing lane for an 8-1 upset to win in 1:59 for Darla MacEachern.

Adam Merner also recorded a driving triple on the program, teaming up with La Vie En Rose (2:00) from the Stacey Lund stable, Fusspot (2:00.3) for trainer Marc Campbell, and Diamond Call (1:59.2) for trainer Ron Gass.
