Trotters Star In Andrew Memorial Stakes

A grand slam from the "Maritime Magic Man" was inclusive of the fastest stakes mile of the night Thursday at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Gilles Barrieau captured the first $11,150 division of the Blair Andrew Memorial Stake for two-year-old trotters picking up the catch drive on Windmeredontuworry in a 2:04.1 victory for trainer and co-owner Terry Gallant and co-owner Eric Johnston of Summerside.

Race favourite Ticked (Driven by Myles Heffernan) set a torrid first fraction in 28.4 before making a break in stride over a wet track listed two seconds off. Buckaroo (Marc Campbell) inherited the lead through a 59.4 half-mile and three-quarters in 1:32.2 before fading to third with the pocket sitting Windemeredontuworry getting the lion's share and A Pure Heart (Danny MacDonald) finishing second.

Barrieau's other wins on the 12-dash card came with Woodmere Sapphire winning in 2:03.4 for trainer Jackie Matheson, Itsallabouthebass in 1:57.1 for trainer Jeff Holmes of Orwell and with Scirocco Miley Kay in 1:58.1 from his own stable.

Never Fear won the other $11,150 Andrew Memorial division with a narrow decision over Buddy White (Adam Merner). Danny MacDonald trains and drives Never Fear for owners Daniel Ross of Belfast, Boyd MacDonald Produce Ltd of Crapaud and Devin MacDonald of Charlottetown, who celebrated his first ever win as an owner.

Freddie captured the $1,850 Open trot in 2:00.1 for trainer-driver Campbell and owner Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston. It was one of two wins for Campbell from his own stable as Elm Grove Ladyluck was a 2:00.4 winner.

Jason Hughes had a pair of wins as a trainer-driver winning with Sir Native in 2:00.4 and Dusty Lane Min in 2:04.2, while Kenny Arsenault had two driving victories visiting the winner's circle with Frill Seeker after a 2:01.1 win and Vintage Winner in a 2:01.1 mile.
