St. Johns Raceway Hosts NLSBA Stakes

St. Johns Raceway in Newfoundland hosted a nine-race matinee program on Monday, and included in the afternoon’s festivities was a pair of $3,000 NLSBA Stake events

Dontbenervous kicked off the stakes action with a 2:06.3 triumph in the lone division for the two-year-old pacers. The son of Quick Comeback-Stormy Sakra chopped out fractions of :31.3, 1:03.3 and 1:36.3 before scooting home in a :30-second clip to win by more than seven lengths in a time of 2:06.3. Our Ryall Flush was second best and Quickcam finished third.

Owned by Back River Stables of Goulds, NL, Dontbenervous improved his rookie record to 2-2-0 in four starts while pushing his earnings to $2,243 with the win.

Camco Norilla rallied to a 2:07 triumph for trainer/driver Dennis Lambert, Jr. in the lone division for the three-year-old pacers. The daughter of Arcane Hanover-Royal Minx drew off to win by more than five lengths over Dusty Lane Zoe. Blueberry Tea took home the show dough. Karen Lambert of Goulds, NL holds the papers on the nine-time winner who has racked up a 5-3-2 record in 16 starts this season. She has banked more than $6,000 to date.

A one-horse spill occurred in Monday’s first race when Formac For Melissa choked and fell shortly after the field made its way past the mid-way point. Trainer/driver Kevin McDonald and the mare came out of the incident with no major injuries.
