Not even a trip parked out for nearly the entire race could stop Maharajah and Orjan Kihlström from capturing the Swedish Trotting Derby at Jägersro on Sunday in

world record time.

Waging war with pre-race favourite Yield Boko (Bjorn Goop) through the majority of the mile and five-eighths encounter, Maharajah pulled away from the pacesetter around the final turn and held off the late charge of stablemate Marshland (Jörgen Sjunnesson) to trip the timer in a mile rate of 1:57.1f - two-fifths of a second better than Scarlet Knight's former world record over the distance for a four-year-old trotter.

Trained by Stefan Hultman, Maharajah (Viking Kronos - Chilli Khan - Giant Chill) is owned by Travkompaniet, a public stable with more than 4,000 shareholders.
