A talented group of “invitees” lined up on the starting gate for the $75,000 Bert Beckwith Pace on Monday afternoon at Plainridge Racecourse, and Foiled Again turned in rock solid performance for driver Dave Palone

.

The Ronnie Burke-trained five-year-old son of Dragon Again-In A Safe Place settled into the three-hole while Real Nice fired off a :26.1 opening panel. Palone had Foiled Again out and rolling on the way to the mid-way point, and those two did battle to the mid-way point in :54 before Foiled Again forged to the front.

He opened up a pair of lengths on the field as he zipped past the three-quarter pole in 1:21.1 before opening up a four-length lead at the head of the lane. He used a :29.2 final frame to hold on for the 1:50.3 decision over a fast-closing Special Report. Third prize went to Psiluvuheartbreaker.

Sent off as the 1-5 choice, Foiled Again improved his 2009 record to 10-5-1 in 18 starts with the victory while pushing his lifetime earnings to $908,704 for the partnership of Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and JJK Stables LLC.
